Singles’ Day
Today is Singles Day in China because the date is 11-11 (November 11). I decided to capitalize on this and planned a lesson about LOVE! I started out with teaching the idiom “Love at first sight.” The kids would giggle, but I instantly had their attention. Of course it’s a topic they like – they’re high schoolers! I then told them how when Adam first saw me in January 2001, he experienced loved at first sight! (-: I had Adam record his voice on our ipod telling the story of the first time we met, then I played the recording for my students as a listening exercise. I then handed out a short multiple-choice quiz about the listening story. The students all gave a strong reaction at the part of the story when Adam says, “When I saw Rebecca I told my friends, ‘She is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen!’” After the quiz I had them flip over their papers and we did a dictation. I dictated some of the verses from 1 Cor. 13… “Love is patient, love is kind…” and they wrote down what I said. They then read it back to me as I wrote it up on the board and they corrected their spelling. Last, we read the passage together, and I spent some time talking about the meaning. It was an enjoyable lesson to teach, and the kids really liked it a lot. But the best part was being able to plant little seeds of truth into their hearts!
